Amarenalytics Talks F1 - 2026 Chinese Grand Prix

πŸ“Š Amarenalytics talks Formula 1 🏁 🏎️

Let's review the second race of the season, the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix.

πŸ† Mercedes Delivers a 1-2 in Shanghai but it's Antonelli's Day

Kimi Antonelli converted pole position into a dominant victory at the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix, with George Russell completing a Mercedes 1-2.

It is the first win for Kimi who, at 19 years old, is the second youngest F1 race winner in history

The Silver Arrows now lead the Constructors' Championship with 98 points, a commanding 31-point gap over Scuderia Ferrari in second.

In the drivers' standings, Russell leads on 51 points with Antonelli very close second with 47 points.

πŸ‘ The Good

Antonelli (P1 β†’ P1) β€” Pole to victory. Kimi made this look easy, despite a small error in the final laps. A flawless drive to extend his championship challenge.

Russell (P2 β†’ P2) β€” Controlled, clinical, and consistent. George keeps the championship lead despite his teammate taking the win.

Hamilton (P3 β†’ P3) β€” Lewis converts his front-row start into the first podium with Ferrari. Great battles with Leclerc and a big confidence boost for Lewis.

Bearman (P10 β†’ P5) β€” The standout mover of the race. Oliver jumped 5 places from P10 on the grid to score 10 points for Haas. A real statement drive.

Lawson (P14 β†’ P7) β€” Gained 7 positions from the back of the midfield to score 6 points for Racing Bulls. Quietly impressive.

Sainz (P17 β†’ P9) β€” Carlos climbed 8 places from a lowly grid slot to sneak into the points for Williams. A masterclass in race craft.

Colapinto (P12 β†’ P10) β€” Franco grabbed the final point for Alpine, gaining 2 spots. Every point counts in this midfield battle.

πŸ€” The Unremarkable

Leclerc (P4 β†’ P4) β€” Charles held his grid position but couldn't challenge Hamilton ahead. A solid but uninspiring afternoon for the MonΓ©gasque.

Hadjar (P9 β†’ P8) β€” Isack dropped one spot from qualifying to finish. With Verstappen's DNF, Red Bull needed more from their remaining car.

Gasly (P7 β†’ P6) β€” Pierre gained one spot but Alpine will feel they left points on the table given Bearman and Lawson's charges through the field.

😬 The Ugly

Verstappen (P8 β†’ DNF) β€” A mechanical failure ends Max's race before it really began. Red Bull score just 4 points from Hadjar's P8. A brutal weekend for Max.

Norris (P6 β†’ DNS) β€” Lando didn't even make it to the grid. McLaren lose a potential haul of points with both Norris and Piastri failing to start. A catastrophic weekend for the Woking outfit.

Piastri (P5 β†’ DNS) β€” The Australian also failed to start. Two DNS's in one race is almost unheard of, McLaren will have serious questions to answer.

Alonso (P18 β†’ DNF) β€” Fernando's race ended with a mechanical failure. Aston Martin are yet to score a single point in 2026.

Stroll (P20 β†’ DNF) β€” Lance joins his teammate in retirement. A miserable double DNF for Aston Martin.

Bortoleto (P16 β†’ DNS) β€” Audi's second DNS of the season alongside Albon. A forgettable day for the new constructor.

Episode 3 will cover the Japanese Grand Prix 🏁 🏎️
